Start with your face shape
A haircut changes the outline around your face, so the first question is what that outline needs. A round face usually suits height on top and shorter sides, such as a textured quiff or a mid fade, which make it read longer. A long or oblong face suits the opposite: some width at the sides and less height, such as a low taper with a side part or a fringe. A square face suits a little softness or texture on top to balance a strong jaw. A heart or diamond face suits fullness near the forehead and temples. An oval face can wear almost anything. If you do not know your shape, the free face shape detector finds it from one photo, and the face shape analysis page explains the shapes honestly.
Then your hair type
Hair type often matters more than face shape. Thick, straight hair bulks out at the sides quickly, so tapered sides keep a shape longer. Fine or thinning hair looks fuller with a low taper and texture cut into the top, while a skin fade puts bare scalp next to a thinner top. Curly and coily hair suits a defined top with tapered or faded sides, and a cut that works with the curl rather than against it. Wavy hair needs enough length for the wave to show. A cut that suits your face shape but fights your hair will not last past the first wash.
Upkeep is the third filter. A skin fade looks sharp for two or three weeks; a taper holds for three to five; a longer scissor cut can go six weeks. Choose a style you will actually maintain, because a well-kept simple cut beats a grown-out ambitious one.

Reading about haircuts only goes so far: it is hard to picture a textured crop on your own face. LEVEL starts from seven guided photos, reads your face shape, your hair's length, texture and volume, your beard and your glasses, and weighs your answers about style and upkeep. It then decides one look, named the way barbers name it, for example a textured crop with a short boxed beard, and shows it on your own photo.
The preview changes only the hair, beard, brows, glasses or clothing. Your face, skin, age and expression stay exactly as they are, and each preview is checked to make sure it still looks like you before you see it. Every preview is labelled as AI-generated, because it shows a direction rather than a promise: your hair's density and growth decide the exact result.
From the preview to the barber's chair
Alongside the preview, LEVEL gives you your top moves, each with why it suits you and a card to show the barber: the name of the cut, the clipper guard for the sides, the length to leave on top and how the edges should be finished. You can show your own preview as the reference, which is clearer than a stranger's photo with different hair. The taper vs fade guide explains the words barbers use, and the hairstyle try-on page shows how the preview works step by step.
The Preview costs $19 once and includes one best-look preview and your top three moves. Complete, at $19.99 a month or $159 a year, adds an alternative direction when there is one, the full set of recommendations, a 12-week plan and a coach; your $19 is credited if you upgrade.
Honest limits
No preview can promise the exact result of a haircut, and no haircut changes your face. LEVEL does not score faces, does not suggest surgery, and keeps every suggestion reversible. If a cut does not work, hair grows back about a centimetre a month.
Questions
- What hairstyle suits me?
- One that balances your face shape, works with your hair type and fits the upkeep you will do. Round faces suit height on top; long faces suit width at the sides; fine hair suits a low taper with texture.
- How do I know which haircut suits my face shape?
- Find your shape first, then match the cut to it: height for round faces, width for long faces, softness for square faces. A preview on your own photo is the clearest way to check before cutting.
- Can I see a hairstyle on my own photo?
- Yes. LEVEL's Preview shows one best look on your own photo, with your face unchanged and labelled as AI-generated, plus the words to give your barber.
- How much does it cost?
- The Preview is $19 once. Complete is $19.99 a month or $159 a year, and the $19 is credited if you upgrade.
