Is a face analysis app safe? How LEVEL keeps your photos

A face analysis app asks for some of the most personal data you have. Here is exactly what LEVEL does with your photos, who else touches them, how long they are kept, and how to delete them.

What to check before you upload your face anywhere

Before you use any face analysis app, look for four things in its privacy policy. Does it say how long photos are kept, as a number? Does it say whether your photos are used to train AI models? Does it name the companies that receive your photos? And can you delete everything yourself? A policy that never uses the word biometric, never states a retention period, or reserves the right to train on your data is telling you something. The comparison checks these points for Umax, Qoves and LEVEL, with links to their own documents.

How LEVEL stores your photos

Your seven photos are checked on your phone first, and only photos that pass are uploaded. They are stored in private storage that is never given a public web address, in a database and file store in Paris. Only you can see them in your account; staff access is restricted and logged. Photos are never sent to the analytics service, and private identifiers are removed from error reports before anything is sent.

Seven photos. Your profile, your best look on your own photo, and what to do next. No score, nothing surgical. $19 once.

Who else receives them

LEVEL names every company that receives a photo. OpenAI analyses the photos and generates the preview; it does not train on this data and may keep it for up to 30 days to detect abuse before deleting it. Modal runs the checks that confirm a generated preview is still recognisably you and that edits stayed within their intended region; the identity check compares two images and the facial measurement it computes is not kept. Supabase holds the database and private file storage in Paris, and Vercel hosts the website and its servers in Paris. The full list is in the privacy policy.

Never used to train AI

Your photos are not used to train any model, by LEVEL or by the services it uses. They are used for one thing: producing your analysis, your previews and, if you have a plan, your progress comparisons.

How and when photos are deleted

Photos are destroyed automatically after 365 days without use, meaning twelve months with no new photos and no completed mission. A scheduled job runs daily and records that it ran without recording what was in the photos. You do not have to wait: you can permanently delete your account and everything it holds at any time from your account settings, with a typed confirmation, and you can export your account record first.

Age, consent and where LEVEL is available

LEVEL is for adults. Your age is taken from a date of birth recorded on your account, not a tick box, and checked again wherever a photo is accepted. You consent before any photo is taken. LEVEL asks where you live before any photo, and stays closed where it cannot operate lawfully: Illinois, which requires a written release under its biometric privacy law first, and China and Russia, which require data to be stored on their own soil.

Is a face analysis app safe? It depends on the app. These are the specific promises LEVEL makes and enforces in code; the trust page shows the controls behind them. What LEVEL does with the photos is described on face shape analysis and face analysis without a rating.
